2nd Annual Hog Island Huff Stand-up Paddlebord Race!

2nd Annual Hog Island Huff SUP Race on Tomales Bay

Marin County Parks and Demo Sport have paired up once again to bring you the second annual Hog Island Huff, a Stand-Up Paddleboard race on Tomales Bay, to take place on Sunday September 23rd, 2012.

Last year’s Huff was a roaring success and this year’s even promises to be bigger and better. The five mile race will begin just off of Miller Boat Launch on the east shore of Tomales Bay. Racers will navigate through the network of channels and sandbars around Hog and Duck Islands, and then head back to the launch to finish the race. After the race, all participants are rewarded with $1 raw and $2 barbequed oysters plus a private lunch menu available at neighboring Nick’s Cove.

Steve Merrifield, owner of Demo Sport says that “the race is a fun family activity that helps to create awareness of access to Marin beaches and waterways and the benefits of their continued preservation.” Race organizer and supervising ranger Adam Craig said that “Stand-Up Paddleboarding is one of the fastest growing sports in the country and Marin is a huge contributor to this growth.”

Following on the heels of the already classic McNears Beach Park Aloha Marin Race, the Hog Island Huff came to life due the increasing popularity and demand for Stand-Up Paddleboarding in the Bay Area. The race gives participants the opportunity to explore another incredible location for Stand-Up Paddleboaring in Marin County.

This is a must see event for the entire family. Come and enjoy one of the Bay Area’s most beautiful locations while experiencing the thrill of competition. Never heard of Stand-Up Paddleboarding before? This event is the perfect opportunity to learn more about the up and coming sport and see local paddlers in action. Already an SUP enthusiast? Come and share your passion with other fans.

All participants are welcome, but an intermediate skill level is suggested due to challenging weather conditions on Tomales Bay. Participants can register for the race at http://www.demosport.com/products/hog-island-huff.

Day of registration will begin at 8:00am and the race starts at 9:00am. The $20 registration fee includes event parking. Boards will be available for rental to experienced paddlers. Prize packages for the winners are courtesy of Clavey Equipment, Demo Sport, Bluerush and Marin Brewing Company. Participants will meet at Miller Boat Launch, 3.5 miles north of Marshall, next to Nick’s Cove.
